Links in column at right. This is a
project that I expect to take years! It is an apartment building
with 4 identical floor plans to decorate in different ways, plus a
similar attic apartment,
a boiler room, and 3 basement level shops. And it is all with a
twist because the actual structure will be a faux apothecary
chest. It won't look like a dollhouse on the outside. One
will open the "drawers" (actually doors) and look into each room.
The apartment floor plan is a cross between a "shotgun house" and a "railroad apartment" (each apt. is one room deep and each room is accesible only through another room). The rooms are shallow so that each can be used to create a stage-set vignette of some aspect of the life of the occupant which will be viewed through a door. There will be a light-well behind the rooms with a "daylight" light source and electric lights in the building. The "location" of the building is a Steampunk San Francisco that was settled by British-Egyptian pirates. The occupants include lower-middle class families, young professionals, elderly, and immigrants. People with strong work ethics but who lack the income to live in less cramped housing. Here is a sketch of what the building would look like, and scroll down for my latest updates. STEAMPUNK HOUSE
A rough rendering of one facade of the building and an attempt at depicting architecture with a slight flavor of ancient Egypt. ![]() To learn more,
